October 2009
Well, from the feel of the cool weather and near freezing overnight temperatures indicate that Fall has definitely taken hold. And as Rhonda and I visited the dock this past weekend, Shambhala and At Ease were at the dock looking ready for a cool Saturday sail. Now there’s some dedicated sailing!! It may be cool but it sure is better then the 12 inches of snow that was dumped up in Nebraska!
I don’t know that anyone is quite ready to pull the boats out of the water and call it a season just yet. I for one am not. But it is getting close to that time of year and many are thinking of the improvements and work to be done over the winter. So if you have any ideas, insight on companies offering good deals, or come across a good website for tips please pass them along and we’ll get them out to everyone.
Here’s a quick rundown of fleet business:
Treasury report from Lonna Smittle as of Oct.1st: Beginning Balance: $728.00 Deposits: $871.00 Reimbusements $486.42 ________________________ Ending Balance $1,112.58
September Pig Roast!!! What a great time! Notes were sent to acknowledge those who provided delicious dishes (Baked Beans-Clyde Hestand, Au Gratin Potatoes and Brownies-Rhonda Mahon, Potato Salad-Kathie McKee, Strawberry Mixed Greens Salad-Ruth Schwartz and Cheesy Corn Bake-Penny Smith, respectively) to the Key West Pig Fest buffet. Thanks to Mac McKee for bringing extra tables and chairs, and Judy Ballew and Ruth Schwartz for checking people in. To prevent forgetting anyone, I hesitate to name the many others who contributed to set-up, decorating, and clean-up, but your willingness to help was GREATLY appreciated. We had over 80 hungry revelers. A big thank you to those who mailed their reservations prior to the event, since we avoided a lot of cash handling and it helped us plan our food quantities..
Reservations are made for our Christmas Party at the Islamorada Fish Company, Bass Pro Shops, for Saturday, Dec. 19th, 6:00 p.m. Unless there are objections to returning to this venue, I will proceed with selecting a menu that hopefully will be as well received as last year's, and be within our budget. There will be a yet to be determined charge per person ,with the Fleet supplementing the cost as well.
Thanks for the update, Lonna!!!!
