Official Publication of the Jacomo Cruiser Fleet

 November 2009

Only a few more cool fall days and this year’s sailing season will be over.  There were some really great times this past year shared by everyone at some point.  New friends were made, new boats were added to the lake, and new members were added to the fleet.  Having just pulled St. Somewhere out of the water last weekend, I am already finding myself planning projects for the winter to prepare for April 1, 2010!  I think this is the perfect time to remind everyone that if you have some tips or ideas that would benefit all of us, please email them to me or Neal Smith.  We’ll be sure to get them out and on the website.  I for one am always looking for ways to get the water line cleaned up!

Now, even though the sailing season is coming to a close, we have one great event coming up and here is your invitation:

Ahoy, Jacomo Cruiser Fleet Members!

Back by popular demand, the Jacomo Cruiser Fleet/ Yacht Club Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 19th at the Islamorada Fish Company, downstairs in Bass Pro Outdoor World, located on the SW corner of I-70 and Highway 291/470, Independence. The Dinner Buffet includes Appetizers, Fish, Ribs, Chicken, Pasta, Vegetable, Salad, Bread, Desserts, and unlimited Coffee, Tea, Soft Drinks, Water. Alcoholic beverages available at the CASH BAR.

Fleet member price is $17.50, (may bring a guest at that price), Non-Fleet members price is $22.00. Those of you who attended last year remember the great meal, the island ambience, and gazing at the big, beautiful saltwater aquarium. Please join us at our end of the year party to gather with friends and fellow sailors, to elect 2010 Officers, and celebrate the 2009 sailing season.

Cocktail Hour: 6:00 PM-------Dinner: 7:00 PM

We will again accept cash donations for the Community Services League Christmas Store.

Make checks payable to Jacomo Cruiser Fleet and mail to JCFYC Treasurer:

And from the Commodore……

Commodore’s Corner

As the sailing season draws to a close, I wonder what happened to the global warming issue. There were very few weekends this past summer that I didn’t pack my rain gear, and the dog days of summer were non-existent this year. Those of us that are still on the water have enjoyed some of the best sailing of the season these past few weekends. We even had five boats raft- up for the night in “10 Cove” on the second weekend in November.  Perhaps those memories will make the coming winter easier to get through.

I want to thank the membership for their help and support this past season. The monthly dinners, cove maintenance, and annual race would not be possible without your participation. Also, I want to thank the officers for their help, time, and efforts in the continued success of our fleet.

I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season. Remember our annual Christmas Party and election of officers for the 2010 sailing season is fast approaching. I hope to see everyone there.

Smooth Sailing,

Mike

Other Business:

·        Many thanks to Clyde and Carol Hestand for the great food at the October Cove Party.  It might have been a bit chilly for some but it was still a great time!

·        As you may have already heard, nominations for the 2010 Officers are currently being accepted.  So far, this is the list of nominations:

o       Commodore – Mike Smittle

o       Vice Commodore – Ryan Smith, Chad Wainwright

o       Secretary – Doug White, Matt Moore

o       Treasurer – Lonna Smittle

Elections will take place on Dec. 19th at the Christmas Party.

·        Carol Hestand suggested that RSVP’s be reinstituted for the 2010 Cove Parties.  This would be of great assistance for those who are hosting the monthly meetings.

And one a final note, let’s all congratulate Larry Ballew on beginning his retirement (Larry, I’ve written a few things in bigger font sizes just for you!)   And Judy, well….. Good Luck!! J

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the Christmas Dinner!

Fairwinds!

Doug
