 June 2009

The season is now in full swing!  More and more boats have splashed and the dock has been quite active lately.  Hopefully, many of you have had the opportunity to enjoy some time on the water.  There’s been quite a variety of weather from cool to hot, and dry to wet!  Were you one of the ones that got caught a couple weekends ago in the popup shower like I did??  What a ride!!  And this past weekend was a great opportunity for a full moon sail.  Many of us took the opportunity and caught some wind under the moonlit night skies.

        Temptation under the moon…

Many thanks to Chuck and Monica Ellis for hosting the May party!  Also, thanks to Larry and Judy Ballew for helping the Ellis’ with the meal. Here’s a quick rundown of the business portion of the meeting:

 Treasury report from Lonna Smittle:

Ø      The previous balance was $866.05

Ø      $80 in fleet dues has been collected and deposited

Ø      $126 was collected for the new fleet burgees

Ø      $19.35 to Office Max for Fleet Membership Cards

Ø      $236 to Theresa Dulinsky for the April Cove Party

Ø      $26.20 for new checks

Ø      Ending balance of $790.50

Ø      Reminder:  Please continue to send in those dues to Lonna.

Notes and Reminders: (some of these are repeats from the last newsletter)

Ø      June Cove Meeting is June 13th at 5:30pm with dinner after the meeting.

o       The June Cove Cleanup will also be June 13th at 10:00am so the cove area will be looking nice for Lakefest.

o       The fleet officers will be hosting for June.  The plan is an old fashioned picnic with burgers and hot dogs on the menu.  Members A-M should bring appetizers and N-Z brings desserts.

Ø      From the Jacomo Sailing Club:  Jackson County will be doing commercial filming at the lake on Tuesday, June 16, from 8:00am – noon.  They’d like to have boats on the water.  Knowing that 8am is a bit early, it looks like 10:00am – noon would be okay.

Ø      If you need to update your boat or personal information, there is a membership form available on the fleet website.

Ø      PIG ROAST!!!!  The Pig Roast has been rescheduled for September.  Volunteers are needed!!!

Ø      Lakefest is scheduled for June 20th.  The commodore met with the park director about possibly having a place to anchor boats and a dinghy available at the Lakefest dock by the dam so we can sail over and enjoy the festivities.  He also inquired about boat captains that participate in the parade receiving Lakefest T-Shirts.  No decisions were made on those issues as of the May cove meeting

Ø      The Spring Regatta was postponed due to the lack of entries.  It was a tad bit windy that day! We’ll keep you updated on a rescheduled day for the Poker Run.

Ø      Ryan Smith is leading the cove cleanup days.  This is typically the Saturday morning of the weekend before the cove meetings.  Remember, the more people that can help, the faster it will get done.

Ø      If you are interested in joining BoatUS, the fee is $12.  This is at a group rate and as long as we have enough members we can continue to receive this rate.  Contact Mike Smittle for the group number.  Check out their website at www.boatus.com.

Ø      If you are interested in purchasing a Jacomo Cruiser Fleet burgee you better hurry!  They cost $21 and $5 of the cost goes back to the fleet to help with future expenses.

Ø      Jacomo Cruiser Fleet membership cards are available from the Commodore.

Ø      A new roster for 2009 will be available at the next meeting.

Ø      Neal Smith has been great at updating the website.  Click on the EVENTS tab to see what’s happening this year. Many events are already on the calendar for the upcoming season.

Please feel free to contact me at dw1009ea@yahoo.com  or on my cell phone 816-377-9850.  If any of you have good tips for preparing the boats for the next season, feel free to email them to me and I will include them in the next newsletter.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the cove this weekend!

 Fairwinds!
