Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!

Ok, so you’ve been Happy New Year’d enough already I’m sure but hey, it is the first newsletter of the year so what the heck!  We need to have some good cheer to bring everyone through this cold weather.  Speaking of good cheer, it was a great feast at the Christmas Party held at the Islamorada Restaurant at the Bass Pro Shop.  Over 50 people attended and the food and conversation were both quite good.  Were you one of the lucky ones to unexpectedly receive a free drink from the waiters?  I would recommend this restaurant for your own pleasure, but don’t expect the accidental free drink service!

As you probably already know, the January Fleet meeting will be held this Saturday, Jan. 17 at Clancy’s in Blue Springs.  The meeting starts at 1:00pm and come early for lunch.  Clancy’s is located on the South outer road off  I-70 between Woods Chapel and Hwy7.

Other business that needs to be addressed:

Ø      It is time to begin signing up for the monthly meetings at the cove.  Those that provided the main dishes for last year’s meetings did a wonderful job and your efforts were very much appreciated.  Please start thinking about what month you can help out with the main dishes for this year.

Ø      There is always a need for help when it comes to the upkeep of the grounds at the cove.  The cleanup days are always the 2nd Saturday of each month.  This assures that the shelter area looks nice for the monthly meetings which take place on the 3rd Saturday of each month during the sailing season.  It would be of great help if one or two members would volunteer to coordinate the cleanup crews.  You don’t necessarily have to be there each time, just help coordinate the manpower and equipment.

Ø      If you have not paid your dues for the 2009 year, please get your payment to Lonna Smittle as soon as possible.

There was a little bit of business conducted at the December Christmas Party.  That seems to be how I got roped into this position!!  However, being unprepared to take minutes as the new Secretary, I don’t have much more to report.  Whatever I missed I will try to include in the February newsletter.  I will be ready this Saturday!

As your new secretary, please feel free to contact me at dw1009ea@yahoo.com  or on my cell phone 816-377-9850.  As we pass through this winter season, if any of you have good tips for preparing the boats for the next season, feel free to email them to me and I will include them in the next newsletter.

Looking back at last year’s January newsletter, I see that former Commodore Dave Baldwin recommended 30 lashes for Chancie due to the newsletter being late.  I would like to thank the current Commodore, Mike Smittle, for being a little more gracious and leaving me lash-free!

I am looking forward to seeing all of you this Saturday at the January meeting!
