February 2009
Hello everyone and Happy Groundhog Day!! Although, the little varmint predicted 6 more weeks of winter so who really cares what he has to say anyway… I am ready for some spring sailing!!
Clancy’s was the location for the January Fleet meeting and 19 members were present for food, Mizzou basketball, and the business meeting. Here’s a short rundown of the business meeting:
Treasury report from Lonna Smittle: Ø As of 1-17-09, ending balance of $243.93 Ø The point was made that the Pig Roast actually made a profit and this helped keep the cost of the Christmas Party down. Ø Discussion over charity contribution took place, with the suggestion made of continuing to contribute to the Community Service League.
Other business: Ø Reminder that volunteers are needed for main dishes for the cove meetings. Carl and Terry volunteered for July, Clyde and Carol for October, Chuck and Monica for May. We still need volunteers for April, June, and August (breakfast??). Ø Mac suggested a committee to be in charge of the pig roast in September. The Commodore asked him to head the committee….Mac agreed. Ø Commodore Mike is going to meet with the county to discuss the reason for the increase in fees this year and a few other issues.
If you are interested in having a Spring Race in addition to the Fall Classic, please let Mike know. If there is enough interest then we’ll add it to the calendar!
Don’t forget to pay your fees by February 28th. Also, if you are interested in the lottery, it is being held on March 14. Check the information included in your county dock/mooring and dry sail renewals for times.
Another reminder….send your Fleet dues to Lonna Smittle and please include a current email address. We are trying to update the email list for 2009.
Neal Smith has been great at updating the website. There is a place on the website for want ads, pictures, or other website links of interest. If you haven’t checked out the website yet, it looks very good!
We still need someone to coordinate the monthly cleanup of the cove. This takes place the 2nd Saturday of each month and assures that the shelter area looks nice for the monthly fleet meetings. Remember, you don’t necessarily have to be there each time, just help coordinate the manpower and equipment.
Mark it on your calendar…..the next fleet meeting will be Feb. 21 at Clancy’s in Blue Springs. For those that have not been there, Clancy’s is on the South Outer Road between Woods Chapel and Hwy. 7. Join us at noon for food and drinks and the business meeting will begin at 1:00pm.
Please feel free to contact me at dw1009ea@yahoo.com or on my cell phone 816-377-9850. If any of you have good tips for preparing the boats for the next season, feel free to email them to me and I will include them in the next newsletter.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the February meeting!
Fairwinds!
Doug
