April 2009 Welcome to Spring! Don’t be fooled by the snow that refuses to leave. We had our first cove meeting and we burned our socks so Spring is officially here! If you missed the informal gathering in March, you missed a fun kickoff to the season. There were about 30 members, friends, and family in attendance and we all enjoyed great weather and food. Speaking of food, thanks go out to Dave Baldwin for supplying the grilled sausages and everyone else who brought good eats! Here’s a quick rundown of the business portion of the meeting: Treasury report from Lonna Smittle: Ø The previous balance was $643.93 Ø $320 in fleet dues has been collected and deposited Ø $200 was used for a deposit for the new fleet burgees Ø Reminder: Please continue to send in those dues to Lonna. Other business: Ø If you need to update your boat or personal information, there is a membership form available on the fleet website. Ø Cove meeting hosts…the only month left is September. Please let me know if you would like to host the September cove meeting. Ø PIG ROAST!!!! The Pig Roast has been scheduled for Saturday, June 13. This will also be the cove meeting for the month of June. Please contact Mac if you are willing to volunteer to assist with the feast. Ø Lakefest is scheduled for June 20th. That makes two great weekends in June to be at the lake! Ø Ryan Smith will be leading the cove cleanup days. This is typically the Saturday morning of the weekend before the cove meetings. Remember, the more people that can help, the faster it will get done. Ø Did you notice how clean the bank by the dock is? Thanks Commodore for making it look nice! Ø If you are interested in joining BoatUS, the fee is $12. This is at a group rate and as long as we have enough members we can continue to receive this rate. Contact Mike Smittle for the group number. Check out their website at www.boatus.com.
The Jacomo Cruiser Fleet burgees are in! They cost $21 and $5 of the cost goes back to the fleet to help with future expenses. There were only 25 burgees ordered so first come first sold!!! A Spring Race has been added to the Event Schedule for 2009. It will be held on May 23rd as long as there continues to be enough interest. The format of the race may be a bit different then the traditional format so come on out and enjoy! Arrrr!!!! If you are interested in participating in or leading a workshop on anything sailing related, please contact the Commodore. This could be anything from bottom stripping/painting, to woodwork or deck work. Neal Smith has been great at updating the website. Click on the EVENTS tab to see what’s happening this year. Many events are already on the calendar for the upcoming season. The April meeting will be held at the cove on April 18 at 5:00. The theme will be “April Showers Bring Happy Sailing Hours!” Ron and Theresa Dulinksy will be the hosts and they are planning a big salad bar event. Members A-M should bring appetizers and N-Z brings desserts. Please feel free to contact me at dw1009ea@yahoo.com or on my cell phone 816-377-9850. If any of you have good tips for preparing the boats for the next season, feel free to email them to me and I will include them in the next newsletter. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the cove in April! And as we all get ready to get our boat legs back, remember…..
